One of my favourite local walks is to stroll around Fleet Pond. I recently headed over there, a great way of spending a few hours.
I was interested to discover the land was bequeathed to an old Monastery of Winchester back in 940 AD. This gift not only included present day Fleet Pond, but also includes modern day Crookham and Hawley.
In the 1950s, this area was one of the first sites to be designated with a special scientific interest in Hampshire. Due to the water fowl and the rich aquatic and heath land flora and wild flowers. It’s the largest freshwater lake in Hampshire.
I truly recommend a visit, if you haven’t been there yet.
